After all, it’s perfectly common to find American-born Hispanics, or those otherwise lawfully in the country in Knoxville, who are so drunk that they passed out in their car, after they allegedly raped a woman, right? So, you’d better put blinders on your curiosity and experience! Wrong.

KNOXVILLE — Police this morning arrested a man on a rape charge after finding him asleep in his car at the scene of the attack.

Abel Ramirez, 28, of Knoxville was found by officers passed out in his car at the Old Gray Cemetery, 543 Broadway, according to Knoxville Police Department Lt. Paul "Dusty" Lane. He faces a charge of rape.

Lane said Ramirez met a woman at a club in the Fourth and Gill community and persuaded her to follow him in his car because he was low on fuel. The woman agreed and stopped when Ramirez pulled into the cemetery.

"He attacked her and raped her," Lane said.

The woman left the scene in her vehicle and contacted police at 5:41 a.m. She was treated for injuries at a hospital, Lane said.

Officers informed of the allegations drove to the cemetery and found Ramirez asleep in his car, Lane said. Ramirez had been drinking alcoholic beverages, police said.

More details as they develop online and in Saturday's News Sentinel.

Loathe it, yet you did. She obviously wasn't looking to get raped.

Much as I tend to argue how difficult it is to prove rape which leads to an equal difficulty in getting a conviction I have to say that not enough information in this story is provided to just default to locking the guy up. I'll wait until I hear more, although normally you only hear about the record of the perp and whatever the female says is just accepted without question.

If she was really raped I hope the man spends a whole lot of years in prison, and she gets the counseling she'll need. I don't care the time of day. No one deserves to go through that. But the flip side is no one deserves to be labeled as a rapist until all the facts are known.

Well you and Rep. Akins must be palsy walsies.

Do you make this same stupid comment when theft is charged upon the word of the complainant and the police investigation? How about when "two juveniles are attacked on Knoxville College campus"?

FYI, he'll get a trial to determine if he is to be so labeled since you are so concerned about his civil rights. Your ilk are never as concerned about the victim.

You do realize that people can legally come to the US? I'm not saying I know, but you seem to be implying that you do, which you have no proof.

Why didn't he leave the scene of the "crime" then? Was he that drunk he couldn't leave. If he was sober enough to perform the act then he should have had enough wits to him to get the heck out of there or was it something else entirely?
